Addiction
My addiction is a clever fellow.
He watches and waits,
Listens and learns,
Then,
At my moment of greatest weakness,
Strikes.
He hits me
With precision and strength –
I am stunned
By the forces of his persuasion.
Weakened,
I try to fight,
But eventually I submit
To the onslaught.
He has become a part of me.
When you are your own worst enemy,
You cannot defeat your enemy,
Without killing a part of yourself.
Although I hate my addiction,
I cannot kill him.
I thought he was mine,
But in reality,
I am his.
